Lemélange Styling

Nothing makes me happier than seeing people do creative things, seeing people create things and seeing people do things they are passionate about. Do you know why? It shows in the quality of work that they put out.

Lemélange Styling (LMG Styling) is an emerging styling brand with two creative heads behind it whose main aim is to promote African print in every possible way.

I love their work and I’m going to share with you guys 2 of their shoots so you can see why.

What I wore: Denim kimono

Hey guys,

It’s been a hot minute since I did an outfit post.

Every now and then, I stumble on some awesome, really wearable pieces in my mum’s closet that she’s had since I was little or possibly before I was born.

This blast-from-the-past denim kimono is one thing I just had to take.     Continue reading

I was featured on: The ‘Dee’ Mako

Hi guys, how’s your week going so far? Good? Great? Don’t worry, public holiday in a bit 😉

I dropped by to tell you that I was featured on The ‘Dee’ Mako

Check it out here

Don’t forget to show some love!

XOXO

Blogger Feature: Dee Mako

Hi guys,

I had the opportunity of meeting fashion blogger extraordinaire Desola “Dee” Mako last week and I have to say that she is so fun and she is such a sweetheart! I was able to squeeze a question session with her. Enjoy!

 Please introduce yourself:

Hi Jennifer, my name is Desola Mako but everyone calls me Dee these days. I’m a very funny person; I find it really hard to describe myself because I’m a bit weird. I’m a fun loving person and I don’t like people

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I was going to start an 8-5 job in another field and I was working in fashion at that point; I needed a way to stay connected to fashion so I found blogging. It wasn’t my first experience in blogging but that was what made me keep up with my blog.

What do you love about fashion?
It helps me create. It’s like there are people that can draw and paint and I can do a bit of that but fashion helps me express myself. That’s the kind of artist I am. I’m a fashion artist.

What inspires you?

What inspires me is my love for what I do, my love for fashion, my love for art, my love for life and my goal to be happy.

Why did you go natural?
I was following trends. And I’ve always liked a certain look and it just fits into it perfectly. I was actually natural till I was 11. After I started experimenting I realized that my hair grew longer than my relaxed hair ever grew.

What’s your hair regimen like?
I’m a lazy naturalista. So I’m one of those people that believe that unkempt hair is the best hair. My regimen is basically wash when I can, condition when I can. The lazy way.

Any favourite products?
The bottle of Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner that I’ve used for over a year.

What do you love about your hair?
The volume.

What do you not love/wish you could change about your hair?
I wish my hair would shrink less

Is having natural hair a plus or a minus when it comes to your fashion?
Since my style borders on Afrocentric I think it’s a plus but I don’t think it makes any great difference.

What fashion mistake do people make that you’d like the readers to avoid?

Wearing things that are not appropriate for your body. You always have to dress for your body.

You buy a lot of really cool stuff from local markets and indigenous stores; any tips for the fashionista on a budget?

Avoid impulse buys, if it’s above your budget and you bargain and they don’t agree then it’s not yours. Realize that buying new things is a luxury; it’s not compulsory.

Who are your style icons?

Lisa Folawiyo, it might be cliché but Solange and I like Rihanna sometimes.

Any favourite fashion brands/labels?

The Heartdictions HQ store, Eve and Tribe, Grey, Bibire.

If you had to travel abruptly and you could only take 6 items (2 fashion items, 1 hair product/tool/accessory and 3 other items) what would they be?

  • Fashion items: a white shirt and some nice shorts.
  • Hair:  A hat.
  • Others: My professional camera, my phone, money.

If you were stuck in an elevator for 12 hours with anybody in the world, who would you pick and why?

Chris Brown! You can tell he is extremely playful and he’d make the best elevator partner. We can gist, make out ,fight, dance, he can sing to me and I can just touch his body when I’m bored. There’s just so much you can do with him.

Anything else you’d like to say?
I’d like to say thank you to you Jen and I’m extremely jealous of your hair. We should do this again! And this is the most fun interview I’ve had.

These are actually 9 pictures! She has the coolest Instagram page

*All pictures are from The ‘Dee’ Mako blog and @dee_mako on Instagram*

What I wore: Charlie Harper

One day I had nothing to wear so I went to my mum’s closet and grabbed this oversized shirt. It was quite big but I actually liked it.
I thought I looked like a female version of Charlie Harper(Charlie Sheen’s character on Two and a Half Men).

Fun fact: The day I wore this outfit, I sat on a table at work and literally five seconds later, the table and I were chilling on the floor. I was so dazed that I just sat there on the floor for some minutes after. The table broke y’all! I need to hit the gym or something. My butt broke a table!

Tip: Laugh with the people laughing at you. When you get home cry to the Lord to wipe their memories overnight. Alternatively, move to Cotonou and start a new life.

(Edges in need of Jesus and edge control)

Jeans: Random (I always wear them rolled up because they’re too short)
Top: For my mama
Shoes: From Jumia
Bag: Borrow pose

What I Wore: Lady In Valentine’s Red

Ello baes! Happy Valentine’s!! Kisses all around! *muah*

No hair related news for now. My hair is still in braids but I’m not sure the braids will see the end of today because I am so tired of the style already.

Anyways, I decided I was going to wear this red dress yesterday with sneakers to work and I thought to do a day to night look for the blog as well.

To be honest, I am liking the outfit posts and I hope you are too.

Hope you’re spending the day with the one(s) you love. If you’re like me, you’re going to be in bed all day falling in and out of love sleep. Enjoy it either ways.

And if you’re feeling sad, remember self love is what’s most important and remember that I love you and God loves you too!
Here’s a really awesome post to lift your spirit(watch the video; it’s the best part)-> How To Be Alone

Also, Lagosians the 10th edition of NITC(a natural hair meet-up) is on the 7th of March so save the date.

Lots of love and warm hugs from me to you!
Xoxo

What I Wore: The Dress Skirt

So I have this maxi dress I got from my sister that I don't like so much.
I don't know, I just feel it makes me look fatter

My first thought was to cut it up and make it a two piece like Desola of Dee Mako did here.

In the end, I decided to just be the razz lazy girl that I am and fold it into a skirt.(Shhh! Don't tell anyone)

Denim Shirt: Way Jeans
Camisole: Next
Sandals: Zara Basic

What item of clothing have you repurposed/found a new way of wearing lately? Should I keep the outfit posts coming? Share with us pretty please!

What I wore: Stripes and Nude

This might come as a shocker to you but this is an outfit post! *jaws drop* LOL

Remember I’m dabbling and diversifying? It’s all in a bid to make me post more consistently.

I read a number of blogs: hair, makeup, fashion, food etc.
Of recent I think I have read one too many fashion posts so that might be the inspiration behind this post.

I am not a fashion blogger neither am I a fashionista but I think style is relative and maybe someone out there might find mine interesting.

If you ask me to describe my style in 1 word it would be ‘comfy’.
However, my sister and my good friend say I am boho/hippie(I do not agree though).

I wore this outfit to work sometime last week.

And because I see them do this on fashion blogs:

Top: Apt. 9 essential

Blazer: Dorothy Perkins (from Debra’s Grace, a cool store in Yaba)

Pants: Next (I’ve had them for years and have rocked the life out of them so much so that they are fading)

Shoes: I don’t know (long story)

Bag: Michael Kors (obtained from my mama)

Hair: Twists using Noble Gold (4 packs, uncut)

Oh and have you heard of Design Essentials? It’s a product brand that makes products for people who want healthy hair and has a line for natural hair. I first heard about them on Kemi Lewis’ blog. She uses their products in her natural hair salon.

Design essentials just launched a flagship store and training centre in Ikeja(yay for the mainland!) that stocks their products.

Their natural hair friendly products are silicone, paraben, paraffin, petrolatum, mineral oil and sulfate free and include the:

-Curl cleanser

-Moisturizing conditioner

-Almond and avocado detangling leave-in conditioner

-Honey curl forming custard

-Honey and Shea edge tamer

and more.

I love the packaging and I also sniffed some of the products(they smell great!) plus Kemi Lewis speaks well of them so I’m looking forward to trying them out!

Store details:
